What is Raising Jane?

Raising Jane is an event weekend designed to create a space for moms and their preteen/teen daughters (ages 10-15), Raising Jane addresses the urgent challenges women and girls face today, including media, self-esteem, body-appreciation and making smart choices aligned with their essential self.

The event includes inspiring keynote speakers, such as Azure Antoinette, the Maya Angelou of the millennial generation and other influential YouTube personalities along with breakout sessions and the Raising Jane Expo.

The weekend also includes ample time to nourish and flourish throughout the Raising Jane Expo, featuring:

Where is Raising Jane taking place?

Our Northern California get-away event is taking place at Shady Creek Retreat Center, 18601 Pathfinder Way, Nevada City.  Located in the Sierra Nevada Foothills just outside of Nevada City in California’s Gold Country, the Retreat Center is positioned near the Yuba River, 15 minutes from downtown Nevada City, an hour and a half northeast of Sacramento and 2 hours from Reno, Nevada & 3 hours from San Francisco.

The property is secluded in its own private valley surrounding guests with a pristine pine and oak forest as well as Shady Creek– a year-round stream that meanders through the property providing a tranquil setting.  The property boasts a large amphitheater, swimming pool, low ropes course, basketball and volleyball courts, lawn areas, and hiking trails.

Who Can Attend Raising Jane?

The get-away weekend is designed for mothers and their daughters (ages 10-15).  Want to come with someone who is like a mom for you (i.e. aunt, grandma or mentor)…that’s fine too.

My daughter is uneasy about attending this event. Is this typical?

Yes! It is quite common for girls to feel nervous or uneasy about coming to an event like this. Many girls worry about fitting in and/or being with a lot of people they don’t know. The weekend is designed to make everyone feel comfortable quickly and provide an amazing time that you and your daughter won’t soon forget!

I don’t have a tween/teen daughter between the age of 10-15 but would love to participate!

The workshops are crafted for the mother and daughter experience.  However, we don’t want you to miss out on the fun, so there are other ways to participate in the Raising Jane Expo and hear the inspiring keynote talks & discussions…you can volunteer!

 Are volunteer opportunities available? 

We have a limited number of volunteer positions available for Raising Jane.  Please contact info@raisingjane.net if you are interested.  We would especially love for community role models, influencers and mentors to volunteer.

May I bring more than one daughter?

Yes, you may bring more than one daughter between the ages of 10-15 for an additional $99.  However, the event is also a great opportunity to spend quality time one on one with each other.

Can I bring a friend/s?

We encourage you to bring your friends (other moms with daughters).  In certain rare cases where a mom is unable to attend but her daughter wants to participate we can make exceptions.  She must attend with another adult.  Keep in mind that most of the workshops are designed for 1 on 1 participation.

Should I purchase my tickets in advance?  

Yes!  Space is limited and we suspect the event will sell out.   Advanced registration is required.

Are meals included and how about dietary restrictions?

The event includes healthy & delicious catered meals and snacks:

What are the accommodations like and can I request my roommates?

Cabins are set up for 4-6 people.  Please let us know if you require private lodging or would like to request your roommates (request on registration form).  We can’t guarantee you’ll be assigned with  your friends but will definitely do our best to accommodate your needs.  Mothers and daughters will be bunking together in the same cabin.

Can I spend the night at home?

We encourage you to unplug and experience the full weekend.  That said, you can participate in Raising Jane without spending the night at Shady Creek.  Due to our contract with Shady Creek however, we are not able to provide discounts off your registration fee should you choose to sleep off-site.

Can I bring my device?

It’s time to unplug and connect.  We ask that the girls leave their devices at home (or in your car) during the weekend.  We understand moms might want to have their phones on hand to capture the event.  We will have a professional photographer on-site and a photo booth.  Please also respect each other’s privacy.  It’s a great time to model the behavior we wish to see for our girls.

Can I pass out materials at the event?

Please bring your business cards!  This is an opportunity for you to connect with others and share your passion.  We ask that you not place promotional materials on chairs or tables (sharing face to face is fine).  Should you wish to further promote your business please contact us about sponsorship opportunities, advertising or space at the expo area at info@seejanedo.com

What is the dress-code? 

There is no specific dress-code for the event.  Dress comfortably and bring layers.

Do I need to sign-up for any of the sessions or workshops?

No.  All registrants will receive a detailed agenda and will have the opportunity to participate in all 4 workshops.   The workshops are intended to be hands-on, experiential, meaningful, and fun.

We would like stay in Nevada City or Grass Valley Friday night.  Where should we stay?

The event is located at Shady Creek Retreat Center, 18601 Pathfinder Way, Nevada City.  Deer Creek Inn in Nevada City is providing a Raising Jane discount.  To make reservations at the Holiday Inn call (530) 477-1700.  Other near by hotels include The Holbrooke, 212 W. Main Street, Grass Valley (530) 273-1353, Courtyard Suites 210 North Auburn Street, Grass Valley, (530) 272-7696, and Sierra Mountain Inn, 816 West Main St, Grass Valley (800) 377-8133 are conveniently located near all venues.  In the area there are many B&Bs and small hotel options: Nevada City  or Grass Valley.

What if I can’t come or change my mind? Can I get a refund?

Unfortunately refunds are not available. You do have the option to transfer your registration to a friend.
